Hyundai has revealed the 2017 Elantra Sport, the most powerful production model ever to wear this nameplate.
The South Korean automaker has not published a complete list of specifications, but it has announced that the 2017 Elantra Sport comes with a 1.6-liter Turbo GDI engine that delivers “more than 200 HP and 190 lb-ft (257 Nm) of torque.”
The South Korean version of this engine provides 204 HP and 195 lb-ft of torque (265 Nm). Since the press release just mentions “more than 200 HP,” the maximum output and torque figures might not change dramatically with the move to the USA.
We do know that the automaker has improved the chassis, powertrain, and styling of the Elantra Sport with the switch to the 2017 model year.
Customers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission and a seven-speed dual clutch unit, complete with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
However, the biggest improvement in the fitment of an independent multi-link rear suspension. Hyundai says this element has been specifically designed to “elevate on-road dynamics and feel.” Judging by the statement made by the automaker, you should expect the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport to handle corners nicely, and we would be disappointed to discover otherwise.
