These two images were recently submitted by Honda to the US patent office. They show the dashboard of a yet unnamed upcoming model, but we're more than sure that it belongs to the 2017 Civic.
We got our first taste of the next Civic as a concept during this year's New York Auto Show. Earlier this week, a sedan prototype was scooped inside, and everything we saw matched these images.

We're not going to pretend to be car interior designers, but it's clear they're going for a multi-layered look that makes the cabin feel wider. The lines may have been inspired by Mercedes, who use the same approach on everything from the CLA to the S-Class.

The infotainment screen continues to be angled towards the drive, a feature we very much like about the Civic. However, we may see more of the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features everyone keeps talking about.

Because test mules for the next Civic hatch have been seen with Acura parts, we believe the hatchback will have the same interior. Honda has hinted that UK-built 5-door models could be imported to the States. Even the mighty Type R has been rumored to be US-bound, but we'd be happy with its engine in the Si Coupe.

The all-new Civic will be superior in many other ways to its predecessor. For example, Honda is planning to offer an alternative to Ford's EcoBoost, a 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo with just as much power as a 2-liter but better fuel economy.

The current generation of the compact car dates back to 2012. Due to harsh criticism for its design, Honda moved quickly with a cosmetic update and revisions to the handling, steering and suspension of the car. It looks like VW, Honda and Ford are all quickening the pace of new model launches.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
