It's getting increasingly hard to hide our excitement over the upcoming launch of the all-new Honda Civic family. They've given us plenty of reasons to hope that the Japanese automaker will return to making fun compact sedans and coupes.
Today, we're going to focus on the two-door side of things with this set of renderings of the 2017-2018 Civic Coupe. They look completely bonkers and almost too good to be true. But the images are actually base on Honda's preview concept and recently spied prototypes.

Everybody knows that Honda concepts are 90% production ready. So the flared wheel arches, massive rear spoiler, and oversized wheels will happen.

What's under the bonnet is even more exciting, as the Civic Coupe is very likely to get the same 2-liter turbo used by the European Civic Type R hatchback. That's the car that recently set the fastest lap time ever by a hot hatch around the Nurburgring track in Germany.

It's gone faster around the Green Hell than the Ferrari F430, Porsche Panamera Turbo, the Gallardo LP560-4 and a bunch of other cars you idolize. With 300 horsepower or more, the Civic Type R coupe would make minced meat of the Ford Focus ST and VW Golf GTI.

But the guys over at the CivicX form also wanted to show us what the regular 2017 Civic Coupe might look like. It's not as crazy, but it still looks like a miniature version of the Accord, complete with LED headlights and crisp design lines.

That singular exhaust pipe you see at the back is likely going to be connected to another turbocharged engine, a smaller one. Just like the new MINI Cooper, Honda is going to offer a 1.5 with forced induction (but it's not a 3-banger). It could have as much power as the outgoing 2-liter and offer better mileage with the added benefit of extra torque.

We could also add a better interior with extra legroom, a massive tablet screen and a huge armrest to the list of goodies. But if we tell you about that, nobody is going to buy the 2015 model year Civic, and we don't want that to happen.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
