2017 Ford Super Duty is Just as Expected – Video, Photo Gallery

Ladies and gentlemen, we knew you were expecting this one for quite a long time, so here goes – the all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty is the "toughest, smartest, most capable" heavy-duty full-size pickup truck to wear the Blue Oval badge. Unfortunately, the 2017 Super Duty family is slated to arrive late next year.

To be offered in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum flavors, the newest heavy-duty workhorse from FoMoCo follows a recipe pioneered by the 2015 Ford F-150. The highlight is a military-grade tough aluminum-alloy body that isn't just stronger and more rustproof than the old model's outer shell, but it can also reduce weight by up to 350 pounds (158 kg).

Being a Built Tough product, the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty features a fully boxed frame that features up to six times more high-strength steel. Axles included, the backbone of the new Super Duty is up to 24 times stiffer, a promise that you can verify for yourself by watching the second of the two vids attached below.

Because the skeleton is stronger than before and the body shell is lighter, we're expecting more towing and hauling capability for the new Super Duty. In terms of technology, Ford promises "16 class-exclusive new features" and, as we reported a while ago, "up to seven cameras" to make towing easier. Adaptive steering is also in the cards. Design-wise, there's not much to separate the 2017 Super Duty from the 2015 Ford F-150.

A detail that we totally dig is the open C-channel design behind the cab, which enables easy aftermarket body upfit for the Super Duty chassis cab. If you fancy LEDs (including cargo box LEDs, sideview mirror spotlights, and quad-beam LED headlamps and taillamps), you'll need to tick a box from the options list.

The trusty old 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel, 6.8-liter Triton V10 gas guzzler, and 6.2-liter V8 are available with minor improvements over the current-gen model. If you opt for the 6.2 vee-eight, you might want to know that Ford opted to pair this lump to a new TorqShift-G heavy-duty automatic transmission.

Checkmate, Chevy and Ram!
