Ford’s Mondeo is getting ready to receive a facelift. We bring you a fresh set of spyshots of one of the pre-production prototypes.
The Mondeo is Ford’s midsize offering for the European market, but it shares its platform with the Fusion. In the United States of America, Ford has already unveiled the facelift of the Fusion, so its European sibling is expected to receive similar changes.
The engineers did not even bother hiding the Ford badges on this prototype, and the layer of camouflage used is pretty thin. Ford has updated the Mondeo with a set of new bumpers, a new shape for the front grille, and new LED fog lights.
The headlights of the new Mondeo facelift will also have a different design, just like the Fusion has already received, but the prototype you see in the photo gallery of this article does not feature them.
At the back, the Ford Mondeo facelift shows more discreet changes. The midsize model boasts a new rear bumper that integrates a set of exhaust pipes with a different design from the ones on the current model. The rear lights feature a different graphic and could extend the use of LEDs.
The facelift of the Mondeo range is a mid-cycle refresh and is expected to bring improvements in the powertrain department, as well as changes to steering and suspension systems. These modifications happen to most facelifts on the market today, and there’s no reason for Ford to stick with the design changes for this refresh of the Mondeo.
Some voices even mention the possibility of launching a Mondeo ST with the facelift of the midsize sedan. The ST version of the Mondeo is reportedly fitted with the 2.3 EcoBoost engine from the Mustang EcoBoost and Ford Focus RS. Time will tell if the rumors were right.
We expect the Mondeo facelift to be showcased at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Ford will likely present the Mondeo as a 2017 car and the vehicle will probably arrive in dealerships at the beginning of next year.
