2017 Ford GT Spied on the Highway in Michigan, Looks Absurdly Cool In Traffic

We’ve seen the 2017 Ford GT in multiple postures so far, but we have plenty of waiting to do until production kicks off next year and we get to see the hypercar on the road. Or do we?

A pre-production GT was recently spied testing on the highway, not far from the Blue Oval’s headquarters in Michigan. The photos do deserve the potato quality tag, but we’re still glad to see these images, which come from Reddit.

While the exuberant aero works of the GT were eye-catching enough on the Detroit floor back in January when the model debuted, seeing those fuselage-inspired panels displayed in public.

This isn’t a sight we’re going to see very often

As you know, the Ford GT will carry a price tag of around $400,000 and most likely won’t arrive at the dealer nearby. That’s because the carmaker has decided to cap production at 250 units per year.

While some cite the complex carbon fiber production as a production-limiting factor, basically all the cars in the hypercar class come in limited numbers. For one thing, Ferrari had already sold al 499 examples of the LaFerrari when Maranello’s halo car made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2013.

Then there’s the Porsche 918 Spyder, whose 918th and final unit left the assembly line on Friday, 21 months after production debuted.

Owners of the new GT will have more than that as a reason to be proud of their rides though. Earlier this month at the Le Mans race, Ford Performance introduced the racing version of the GT.

This will compete in the 2016 season and is set to enter the GTE Pro category, the one that saw a C7 Corvette and a Ferrari 458 Italia battle it out this year, with the ‘Vette finally grabbing the trophy.

We need to be patient though, as Ford Performance engineers, together with their partners at Multimatic Motorsports, still have a lot of sweat and tears to shed until the development of the GT is completed, be it the street or the race machine.
