Fighter planes making emergency landings on highways are rare, but not impossible sight. Then again, the same can be said about highway sightings of the 2017 Ford GT prototype.
A completely uncovered GT test vehicle was spotted driving on the freeway in Detroit earlier this week. Youtube user DrScandalous managed to record a pair of clips that give us a good look of the supercar.

We weren't kidding in the intro - Ford has chosen to send various 2017 GT prototypes around the country naked and spotting them has become a bit of a national sport for car aficionados.

At least in this video, the test vehicle for the Blue Oval's halo car, is (partially) finished in a hue that somehow resembles the shade of Green used by the army. Factor in the GT's fuselage-like aerodynamics and we end up with something that looks a bit like a fighter plane on vacation.

In reality, the new GT is far from enjoying a holiday. Ford engineers are working overtime to complete the development of the car, which is set to be released next year.

As you can see in the videos, the exterior of the car is far from the shiny prototype that swept us off our feet at Detroit back in January. The surfaces are rather unfinished while the taillights could very well come from a bus.

The same goes for the cabin - we only get a brief view, but the work in progress status of the interior is obvious, with the ton of testing hardware only adding up to this.

Top facts about this beast

It's difficult to forget such details, but we'll remind you Ford's 600 hp plus supercar is expected to come with a price tag of around $400,000.

Yes, that puts it in the same league with the Lamborghini Aventador, for instance. Then again, you get plenty of delicious stuff to enjoy, from the massive active rear wing to a devilish soundtrack.

Oh and they're only going to build around 250 units per year, so you'd better have dinner with that important industry guy soon if you're planning to get one.
