2017 Ford Fusion Sport Arrives at Dealers in August, Priced at $34,350

For $33,475 plus the destination charge, Ford will sell you the baddest Fusion around. Believe it or not, the red-painted hooligan with seating for five trounces the BMW 340i xDrive as far as output is concerned.

The business end of the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport is, of course, the twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 lurking under the hood. This engine is also available in the 2017 Lincoln Continental. Compared to the Bavarian interloper, the American offering churns out more horsepower and more pound-feet. How many more, you ask? 5 HP and 50 pound-foot, respectively.

325 horsepower and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) doesn’t sound like much if your bedroom is laden with Lamborghini Countach posters, but then again, keep in mind that this is a Fusion. The force-fed six-cylinder powerplant is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission as standard. An all-wheel-drive system is also on the menu.

Continuously controlled dampers with pothole mitigation technology are also standard, as are the sexy-looking 19-inch Tarnished Dark wheels shod in 235/45 R18 tires. Speaking of sexy, the rear decklid spoiler and four exhaust pipes are there to provide the sporty touch. Inside, the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport is equipped with manual climate control, rotary gear shift dial, three 12 V power outlets, seats wrapped in suede and leather, and power front seats (10-way with memory for the driver, 6-way for the passenger).

The Value Package (equipment group 401A) costs $2,000 and adds goodies such as ambient lighting, two 4.2-inch configurable displays integrated in the instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic temperature control, SYNC 3 infotainment, and a thumping great Sony audio system with 12 speakers.

The Fusion Sport is now available to order and first deliveries will be made in August. If fuel economy is what you’re after, the Energi is the Fusion version for you. In SE trim, the plug-in hybrid four-door sedan starts at $31,995 including destination charge. While we’re on the subject of plug-and-play sedans, the most expensive Fusion money can buy retails for $39,995 and it is called the Fusion Energi Platinum.
