2017 Fiat Panda Gets Small Updates and Uconnect

Just in time for the Paris Motor Show, Fiat has made some updates to its Panda family of tiny cars. The cosmetic changes are minute, but a dedicated Uconnect app should make life behind the wheel easier.

They're calling it a Uconnect infotainment system, but that's like calling bringing your own sandwich to the restaurant "self-service." What's actually happening is that you can strap your own Android or Apple phone to the top of the dash and use several functions through the app.

You can then use the phone touchscreen to interact with the car, change radio stations, adjust the volume, manage calls and text. But mostly, you are going to use it for maps and music.

As far as the cosmetics are concerned, the updates include two new colors, the pastel Amore Red which "emphasizes the dynamic nature of the city car, and the metallic Colosseo Grey, with its modern technical undertones, highlights the all-rounder mood of the city-SUV range."

The 2017 Panda also features new center caps for the 14-inch alloy wheels and an all-new design for the 15-inch ones. In the case of the 4x4 trim level, this gets a burnished finish on top.

Looking at the video, we see a few of the interior features that Fiat discusses in its official press release but doesn't provide images of. The steering wheels gained a double central spoke available in two finishes, silver or titanium, matched to the dashboard and seat upholstery. The Panda 4x4 offers a standard leather upholstery steering wheel, radio controls and titanium finish, which becomes silver on the Cross.

Nothing changes on the engine front. The entire lineup complies with the latest Euro 6 emissions regulations and starts off with the 69 hp 1.2-liter petrol that's also available a dual-fuel LPG system. The 0.9-liter TwinAir remains a popular option, as does the 95 HP MultiJet II diesel unit.

The 2017 Panda will be available starting this month. In Italy, FCA has already announced a €1,000 price cut and cheaper insurance.
