The Aperta version of the LaFerrari, meaning the open top one, is perhaps ever more sought after by collectors. In 2017, an Aperta sold for roughly $10 million, setting a record. And now, another one is planning to challenge that record.

Auction house Bonhams announced this week it will be selling not one, but two LaFerrari cars during the Goodwood Revival Sale on September 8.

The first of the two is a 2017 Aperta for which the auctioneers plan to get anywhere in between £5 million and £6.5 million. That’s anywhere from $6.4 million to $8.3 million. It comes painted in Grigio Reventon Lucido and has covered only 5,900 km since new (3,600 miles).

The second one on the block is a regular coupe 2015 LaFerrari, which is estimated at £2,3 - £2,8 million ($3 – 3.6 million). With only 510 km on the odometer (316 miles), this one is finished in Nero Daytona with red and black interior

But what makes these cars so special?

First, from the get-go the Italians wanted to create the ultimate car, hence the LaFerarri name, which stands for The Ferrari. It was introduced in 2013 as a successor of the Enzo and was the Prancing Horse’s first ever hybrid car.

Secondly. only 499 units of it were built, all powered by a 6.3-liter V12, combined with an electric motor that gives it a total output of 963 horsepower. When it arrived in 2016, the Aperta variant used the same engine.

“Widely recognized as one of the most important supercars created in the past decade, the LaFerrari represents the pinnacle of Ferrari's longstanding supercar heritage,” says Bonhams in a statement.

“Drawing on F1-derived engineering and design, the LaFerrari caused a frenzy when it was first released and became an instant classic.”
