DS Automobiles has showcased the fourth model in its range, the 4S, in China. It completes the French manufacturer’s lineup, which includes models like the DS 5, DS 5LS, and DS6.
The new DS 4S has been developed in Europe, but will only be sold in China. Compared to the European DS 4, the 4S comes with a longer wheelbase. The representatives of the French brand specified that this is because the Chinese market has different requirements, and they must cater to them, as the country is the world’s largest market.
On the inside, the DS 4S has a dashboard wrapped in leather, and the center console and steering wheel received a new design. The seats have a “watch-strap-style” upholstery, also made of leather.
The recently founded premium brand from Paris also introduced the DS-Connect technology in the 4S, their solution for a modern multimedia unit. The DS-Connect includes navigation, communication, and safety functions.
The exhibit was shown in a new color, called “Dark Fire Red,” and an exclusive “Matt Gold” DS5 was also showcased at the event. The red shade is restricted to this model, as mentioned in DS’s press release.
Also at DS Automobiles’s stand, the DSV-01 was exhibited, the electric single-seater employed by the DS Virgin Racing Team in the Formula E Championship.
DS Automobiles also introduced a significant styling milestone on the 4S, the “DS Wings grille.” As you can see from the images in the gallery, the grille is extended towards the LED headlamps.
Concerning powertrains, DS will provide the 4S with three gasoline engines, offering between 136 to 204 HP. The least powerful is a new-generation PureTech engine, which is a 1.2-liter unit that has been turbocharged to deliver this level of power. The other two engines are 1.6-liter THP units, also turbocharged.
The new DS 4S will be launched with a six-speed automatic gearbox. DS’s press release does not mention the possibility of introducing a manual unit for this model.
