2017 Corvette Grand Sport Tops Porsche 911 Carrera S in Braking, Handling Tests

The Porsche 911 and the Chevrolet Corvette might share the sportscar label, but the ways in which the two represent the breed are so different that any comparison inevitably gets extremely complicated.

Well, we love complicated speedy matters, so we're here to talk about Motor Trend's latest Head 2 Head adventure, which brings us a comparo involving the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport and the 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

And while we shouldn't throw spoilers at you, we simply couldn't help but deliver the one in the title above - that's what happens when a Vette shows a Neunelfer who's boss in terms of both lateral Gs and stopping distance.

However, we have to mention that the Z07 package of the Grand Sport means it gets carbon-ceramic brakes, while the sportscar also packs Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, which do offer it a grip advantage.

Even so, since the C7 Grand Sport is considerably more affordable than the Carrera S, it can pack all the goodies it wants to - oh, and by the way, Porsche couldn't.... find a seven-speed manual Carrera S, so the stick shift Chevy had to be compared to a PDK rear-engined coupe.

Those of you who aren't familiar with H2H show should know that each and every moment of the video is worthy of your undivided attention. For instance, you'll also get to see racing driver Randy Pobst putting the two beasts through their paces on Willow Springs. Of course, the street driving part of the brawl is just as important and it's all covered here.

And while the results will raise more than a few eyebrows, this spreads far beyond the 911-Grand Sport fight.

In fact, this story makes us lust for a Corvette Grand Sport Nurburgring lap time and that's because the 991.2 Carrera S can deliver the kind of manic 7:30 Green Hell laps.
