The C3 Picasso mini MPV started production in 2008. In 2012, Citroen freshened things up with a facelift, but then truth of the matter is this thing is getting a little too long in the tooth. Thankfully, though, the French brand will debut an all-new generation of the C3 Picasso late this year.
Tipped to arrive on the market for the 2017 model year, the second-generation Citroen C3 Picasso is currently in the final stages of development. Our spy photographers caught the subcompact multi-purpose vehicle testing and, from the looks of it, it will be more funky and spacious than its old man.
As far as styling is concerned, it’s somewhat hard to try and foresee what Citroen has in store for the next generation of the C3 Picasso. Based on the shape and arrangement of the headlights and fog lamps, the 2017 Citroen C3 Picasso will probably look like a C4 Picasso xeroxed at 80 percent.
Rumor on the street is the camo will come off just in time for the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. Compared to the current generation, which is based on the same platform as the Peugeot 207, the new C3 Picasso will use the PSA PF1 architecture from the 208. PSA has agreed to share the PF1 underpinnings with Opel for the third generation of the Meriva.
The front-wheel-drive chassis will be motivated by petrol and diesel engines ranging from a 1.0 PureTech with 68 PS to a 1.2-liter with 82 or 110 PS. On the turbo diesel front, there’s a 1.6 BlueHDi with 75, 99 or 120 PS. Those customers who don’t want the standard manual transmission will have the possibility to opt for the EAT6 6-speed automated manual.
The Meriva, on the other hand, isn't expected to mirror the C3 Picasso in this regard. The German brother of the C3 Picasso is tipped to use engines and transmission developed by General Motors.
