Ever since Dodge put the Hellcat supercharged V8 in the Charger, us car nuts have been wondering when the Chrysler 300 will receive its share of madness. Not anytime soon, apparently. Instead of increasing the appeal of the gray-haired 300 with a blown V8, Chrysler has decided to garnish the full-size sedan with premium everything at the New York Auto Show.
I’m still waiting for the Chrysler 300 Hellcat to arrive, probably later in the 2017 model year, but this will have to do until then. By this, I’m referring to the 2017 Chrysler 300S Sport Appearance Package. Quite a mouthful, isn’t it? And yes, it is exactly what the label reads - an appearance package.

Chrysler, which is arguably the most troubled and the least appealing American-based brand of the Fiat Chrysler consortium, thought that a little bit of aggressiveness here and some LED fog lights there would turn things around for the better. Erm, nope. You still have a long way to go, Chrysler, especially after Marchionne told the media that your designers copied Hyundai.

Nevertheless, I wouldn’t mind a full-size sedan painted in Ceramic Gray and motivated by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 under the hood. The cabin makes a case for itself as well. On the other hand, the rear deck lid spoiler and the 20-inch wheels somehow don’t blend in with the rest of the vehicle.

Slated to go on sale this August, the 2017 Chrysler 300S with the Sport Appearance Package is expected to start at approximately $37,000 for the rear-wheel-drive V6 model. AWD will be offered as an option only for the V6. As for the V8-powered model, that comes exclusively in rear-wheel-drive form.

If you want the more mainstream version of this Chrysler and a burbling V8, then head on to the Dodge website and start configuring your Dodge Charger R/T. Better still, the Dodge costs just $33,895.
