We understand why somebody would look at the widebody 2017 Camaro ZL1 in the rendering above and consider it a piece that will remain confined to the world of 1s and 0s. However, we wouldn't be all that surprised if we saw this becoming reality once deliveries kick off, an event that's scheduled for early 2017.
How come? The answer is simple and, to many's surprise, it doesn't just have to do with the 640 hp muscle beast Chevy has recently introduced, in both Coupe and Convertible trim.
Instead, it's enough to notice the monstrous level of aftermarket attention the lesser 2016 Camaro SS has enjoyed to understand how ZL1-hungry tuners are.
Within three months since the sixth-generation Camaro SS' delivery started, the Chevrolet had been fitted with all three main power adders, namely nitrous, supercharging and twin-turbocharging.
Of course, the fact that the 2016 Camaro SS borrows its LT1 V8 from the C7 Corvette has played an important role here, as tuning companies already knew what they had to do, with the packaging being the main difference, but not something that would slow them down by much, as we mentioned above.
And since the new ZL1 Camaro uses the LT4 heart of the 2015 Corvette Z06, we're expecting the aftermarket to start working on the meanest 6th-generation Camaro to date as soon as possible. And since GM followed the example they set with the Cadillac CTS-V, slightly downtuning the LS4 for the Camaro ZL1, we can see why the tuners want to make up for the small muscle loss.
And while we've mentioned output increases above, once the market is loaded with these, there will be plenty of customers willing to let people know their ZL1s are special. Well, this is where body kits such as the one rendered here (hat tip to Javier Oquendo Design) will come into play.
