If Santa Claus had to choose a muscle car to deliver his goodies this year, it would probably be the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. We're not saying Santa is a GM guy, but the new ZL1 is the freshest muscle machine to have reached driveways across the country. So let's see how this LT4-engined slay handles a dyno run.
As we recently wrote, Hennessey Performance grabbed a Camaro ZL1, with the tuner having now strapped the thing to the dyno. As you'll be able to see in the first piece of footage below, the Chevy, whose crank output is rated at 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of twist, delivers a meaty 567 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels - keep in mind we're dealing with the six-speed manual, since the 10-speed auto models won't arrive until next Spring.

Now, the rear wheel numbers above are close to the 580 hp and 556 lb-ft crank horsepower of the previous generation ZL1, which is a sweet indicator of how things are going in the muscle car power war.

However, the comparison that sits on everybody's lips has to do with the C7 Corvette Z06 that donated its LT4 supercharged 6.2-liter V8 heart to the Cam-hammer.

To be fully accurate, this kind of battle should involve the vehicles being tested back to back. While such a fight isn't available, we'll remind you that the Lone Star State tuner recently drag raced a Z06 and a ZL1, with the results raising more than a few eyebrows.

Also, we added Hennessey's 2015 dyno video for the range-topping Corvette at the bottom of the page. And no, the Camaro doesn't make more wheel hp than the 'Vette, so we can't talk about another controversial story like the one involving the Camaro SS and the Corvette Stingray's dyno brawl.

With the rolling road tasks out the way, the Texan developer moved on to have its way with the factory blown Camaro and we'll return with a story on its 2017 ZL1 offensive later today.
