While we've already seen the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe dropping the heavy camouflage of the early testing days, it seems the Convertible incarnation of the future ZL1 still relies on this to hide its aggressive styling cues from us.
Perhaps the carmakers wanted to make sure the open-air ZL1 had proper apparel for the snowy testing conditions seen here. Even so, it's not difficult to guess the manly shapes of the muscle car.

From the front lip spoiler and meaner hood, through the beefier side skirts and more generous rear aerodynamic element, the ZL1 shouldn't have any issue showing an SS (even the Ground Effects Kit-gifted models) who's boss - no Ford pun intended.

Chevrolet has undoubtedly noticed how the aftermarket world is going crazy with the SS (more on that power-adding journey here) and while aftermarket examples of the latter are already more powerful than the ZL1 we're talking about, having a factory muscle setup, along with a warranty, is a different matter.

Let's talk numbers

Speaking of which, with the SS borrowing the LT1 heart of the C7 Corvette, the ZL1 will turn to the Z06 'Vette for motivation. However, while the blown 6.2-liter LT4 makes 650 hp and 650 lb-ft under the hood of the Z06, we're expecting the ZL1 numbers to be closer to the 640 hp and 630 lb-ft we get in the Cadillac CTS-V.

The output gap between the three LT4 packages will be smaller than in the case of their previous generations - that age saw the LSA-powered ZL1 being placed between the just-as-LSA-motivated ex-gen CTS-V that delivered 556 hp and 551 lb-ft and the LS9-gifted Corvette ZR1, which packed 638 hp and 600 lb-ft.

GM is expected to bring us the 2017 Camaro ZL1, be it a Convertible or a Coupe, next summer, so you'd better accelerate that saving process.

P.S.: We seem to be hearing customers who live in snow-covered states cheering in the background upon seeing these pictures.
