With the sixth-generation Camaro, Chevrolet pushed the envelope of what pony cars should be about further than before. For the 2017 model year, though, the 1LE performance pack is poised to become the new yardstick in the segment.
For the first time since the 1LE package was introduced in 1988, the golden bowtie decided it was about time to offer it on the V6-powered Camaro as well. As a rule of thumb, the 1LE performance package borrows various go-faster bits and bobs from the Chevrolet Camaro SS and Camaro ZL1 models.

Customers of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro can distinguish 1LE models by checking if the car is equipped with a satin black hood, black bowties front and rear, and an exclusive three-piece rear spoiler. If you want these visual add-ons on your Camaro, be warned that the 1LE package is available only for V6 and V8 models equipped with the six-speed manual.

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro LT 1LE’s highlights include suspension components from the Camaro SS, the fuel system from the Camaro SS, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels shod in Goodyear Eagle F1 245/40 tires at the front and 275/35 tires at the rear.

Further features include Brembo 4-piston front brake calipers, a limited-slip diff with 3.27 ratio, track-focused cooling (for the engine, diff, and the transmission), and the loud and proud dual mode exhaust system. Inside the LT 1LE, you’ll find a steering wheel wrapped in suede and a short-throw shifter. Optional extras come in the form of Recaro-designed bucket seats and a PDR video recording system.

In the case of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, the track package introduces FE4 suspension. It’s a performance-oriented tune with specific adjustments brought to the Magnetic Ride dampers, springs, and stabilizer bars. Compared to the mechanical diff of the LT 1LE, the SS 1LE uses an electronic limited-slip differential with 3.73 gears. 20-inch wheels are on the menu as well, with 285/30 rubber at the front and 305/30 at the rear.

As for stopping power, the small-block V8 under the hood prompted engineers to equip the Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE with Brembo six-piston monobloc brake calipers with two-piece rotors up front. The 370-mm (14.6-inch) diameter rotors are 7 percent larger than those of the SS. As opposed to the LT 1LE, the SS 1LE is equipped with Recaro front seats as standard.

Those interested in purchasing a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro with the 1LE package will have to wait until late calendar year 2016. Pricing of the 1LE package and performance gains will be announced at a later date.
