The small crossover in Buick’s lineup started production in 2012 as a 2013 model year car. For the 2016 Buick Encore, the manufacturer added three new exterior paint jobs and a revised 18-inch wheel design, yet this is not a mid-cycle facelift. That’s reserved for the next model year.
What you can see in the spy photo gallery below is the 2017 Buick Encore. Spotted by our carprazzi team on a remote B-road in Germany, the prototype vehicle wears Deutschland plates, and the camouflage up front wants us to believe it’s actually the 2016 Opel Mokka facelift.
Look closer and you’ll see some Buick-style vertical bars instead of the Opel Mokka’s horizontal bar, so go figure what General Motors is testing on the Old Continent at the present moment. Slated to be presented later this year or in early 2016, the 2017 Buick Encore (and 2016 Opel Mokka for that matter) won’t be changing too much.
Trying to figure out what’s going underneath the thick camouflage up front is rather simple: the front bumper and probably the fog lights as well will be changed to resemble those of the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The trademark Buick waterfall grille now boasts more yet slimmer “teeth,” to make it look ritzier.
As far as the headlights are concerned, the clusters incorporate lighting elements from both the outgoing Encore and the Europe-bound Mokka. If this ain’t a work-in-progress type of job, the headlights appear to be more US-spec than EU-spec.
For the side profile and the rear fascia design, we’re sorry to announce that this test mule doesn’t feature anything remotely related to a mid-cycle facelift. A subtly restyled rear bumper is the highlight. According to some voices, the 1-liter ECOTEC turbo three-cylinder engine from the 2015 Opel Corsa will be added to the engine lineup of the 2016 Mokka facelift.
The thing is, it's highly unlikely for the three-banger to arrive on the 2017 Buick Encore as an alternative to the 1.4-liter turbo that musters 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm). Inside, both models will definitely receive an IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
