For the 2016 model year, Buick freshened up the Encore with a winged rear spoiler and a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 153 ponies and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque. However, the 2017 model year will see the Encore undergo a proper nip-and-tuck procedure. This is what it will look like.
The photographs of the 2017 Buick Encore in Chinese specification come courtesy of automotive publication auto.sina.com.cn. Less than two weeks remain until the U.S.-spec model debuts at the New York Auto Show, so what’s there to look forward to from the facelifted subcompact crossover SUV?
For starters, the Encore will lose the chintzy waterfall grille that makes the outgoing model year look like it has silver crowns on its teeth. A single strip of chrome is flanked by redesigned headlights with double-wing LED daytime running lights. The front bumper, fog lamp housings, and hood have also been redesigned. At the rear end, only the bumper appears to have been changed.
In my book, designers did a great job with the exterior overhaul of the Buick Encore. Compared to the pictured China-spec model, the U.S. version will add little details such as LED taillights and orange turn signals. As for the cabin, there are no photographs available at the moment. A certain gut feeling is telling me not much will differ from the European kindred, which is christened Opel Mokka X.
Other than a more straightforward dashboard design and better ergonomics, the 2017 Buick Encore facelift will boast Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment system. On the powertrain front, the 153 HP 1.4-liter SIDI with 153 horsepower will soldier on as the range-topping option. As standard, the 1.4 EcoTec four-banger with 138 horsepower on tap will have to do.
