BMW is in the final stage of development for the M4 LCI, which is the company’s way of naming a facelift.
The refreshed model is expected to be showcased at next year’s Geneva Motor Show, and it will come with similar changes to those applied to the 3 Series and 4 Series ranges.

The M3 Sedan has already received a Life Cycle Impulse, and the changes that were brought to this lineup did not include modifications to the engine.

However, the M4 facelift could get more power out of its twin-turbo inline-six engine, which currently develops 431 HP. Thanks to the M4 GTS, we already know that the unit can handle 500 HP and 600 Nm (443 lb-Ft), but the brand is not expected to fit that same unit into the facelifted M4.

Many people believe that the M4 facelift will not get more power than it used to have, like BMW did with the M3, but MY2017 might change the status quo. The power hike would be necessary to ensure that the performance model from Munchen will be a head-to-head competitor to the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, which already comes with 476 HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft).

It is believed that BMW might fit another version of the M4 GTS' motor to the M4’s facelift, which could develop around 470 HP. The M3 might get the same engine at a later date. Meanwhile, the “CS” (that name has yet to be officially confirmed) version of the M4, which is already being tested by BMW, could get the 3.0-liter inline six engine’s full power level, as exhibited by the current GTS.

It is worth noting that not all of the modifications applied to the M4 Coupe for the GTS transformation are expected to come to the M4 CS, which means no diet for the German model. Even without shedding weight, the version of the M4 Coupe that is rumored to be called “CS” will be faster than the regular M4 thanks to several improvements.
