BMW Motorrad is further updating its lineup for 2017, and it’s the time to meet the revamped F 800 R and F 800 GT machines as they got introduced at EICMA recently.
The high-torque, water-cooled parallel-twin engine that equips both motorcycles has been updated to meet new Euro 4 regulations. The visual hallmark to mark the event here is the new stainless steel tailpipe. As part of the process, the HP sport muffler from Akrapovic has also been redesigned and is offered as an Original BMW Motorrad Accessory.

There’s also a new ride-by-wire throttle system at the rider’s fingertips for even finer controllability and improved engine response. Along with this come three riding modes - Rain, Road, and Dynamic.

Rain and Road modes are tuned to offer maximum traction on damp and dry road surfaces, while the Dynamic one is intended to support a more sporty riding style. The latter is available as an ex-works option however.

Both bikes come with a redesigned instrument panel, consisting of two analog clocks for the speedometer and rev counter along with a multifunction display. The MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) is placed in the cockpit now and everything has been designed to improve readability and provide as much riding information as possible.

The new BMW F 800 R will be available in Racing Red, Blackstorm metallic, and BMW Motorsport, which is formed by a Lightwite base color with Lupine Blue metallic matte and Racing Red accents. On the other hand, the 2017 F 800 GT will come in Blue metallic matte, Lightwhite, and Blackstorm metallic.

The accessories list has been expanded to include a number of attractive components for the two bikes. For example, a newly designed HP exhaust with a carbon fiber end piece, higher handlebars and “Design Option” wheels.

New, higher handlebars are available for the new F 800 R ex-works which meet the rider’s need for a more relaxed seating posture. In conjunction with a low seat, these new handlebars also provide an ergonomic alternative for shorter riders.

The new F 800 R with the “Design Option” wheels will especially appeal to those who prefer a motorcycle with a more sporty look. There's a red decorative line around the edge of the wheel rim that emphasizes the sporty, dynamic aspirations of the new roadster, very much in the style of the superbike BMW S 1000 RR.
