2017 Bentley Bentayga Finds Its First Customer and She's a Real Queen

The 2017 Bentley Bentayga has finally had its official launch these past days in Frankfurt. It marked the first ever Bentley SUV model and, as Bentley is so quick to point out, the first ultra-luxury SUV.

Having seen the car, we stand by their position, with the added comment that it is surprisingly small. For a Bentley, that is.

At the time this video was recorded, the Bentley official featuring in it (Michael Winkler, chief of Bentley US) was reluctant to say it loud and clear, but in the meantime, the news has come out: the new Bentley SUV is completely sold out for 2016, even though it costs $229,000 in its basic form. And almost nobody outside the company has yet driven the car.

But in his interview for Bloomberg, he also gives us another important info. Well, maybe not important, but very relevant for figuring out what this car is all about.

The first man - or rather woman - to receive a 2017 Bentley Bentayga is none other than Elizabeth the Second, who rules over England and the whole Commonwealth in her spare time.

We shouldn't be too surprised, as the Queen is known to be a bit of a petrolhead, and above that, the current official Royal Limousine is also a Bentley. The explanation given by Michael Winkler is that she owns a big estate in Scotland, and she will use the Bentayga for her hunting expeditions on the property (we did say it was big).

Well, from what we know, the Queen used to drive her Land Rover products when going off-road up to this point, including Range Rovers and even a Land Rover Defender. The Bentley Betayga, on the other hand, should take the level of luxury to a whole new level, one that, for a hunting expedition, is a bit too high even for a Queen, if you ask us. But, hey, at least now the dogs will get to ride in the Range Rover.
