2017 Audi SQ7 Dyno Tuned to 473 HP and 945 Nm

This video just shows an ECU remap of the Audi SQ7's 4-liter V8 engine. However, it also reveals the tuning potential of two others all-new vehicles, the Porsche Panamera 4S Diesel and the Bentley Bentayga.

I followed the activities of DieselPower Race Engineering because they have an Octavia RS race car. However, tuning TDI engines is their specialty, and they've done everything from the old Fabia RS 1.9 to this, the most technologically advanced diesel engine around... or is that the new quad-turbo from BMW?

Anyway, let's do the math first and examine the implications later. You've got 473 PS and 945 Nm of torque, making a fast SUV even quicker. However, the increase over the stock numbers (435 PS and 900 Nm) isn't that dramatic, meaning Audi did a good job right out of the box.

We've seen thins kind of stuff with the tri-turbo 3-liter from BMW too. The more turbos you have, the higher you can boost that last one without worrying about lag. Of course, the 4.0 TDI in the SQ7 is only a bi-turbo, but it also has an electric compressor that pumps air into the intake. Think about what that means: 900 Nm from basically no revs, and now 45 more have been added.

This is not the best way to convince 2.3 tons of SUV to reach 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Audi could have used the W12 or even the engine from the RS7 Performance. However, the SQ7 is more of a technological flagship, fitted with the latest 48V system that can move the electro-mechanically operated anti-roll system.

One thing the SQ7 won't do is set your pants on fire. It's a very quiet, composed and relaxed type of performance car. It's like a GT, but shaped like an off-roader. So in many ways, it's one of the best SUVs in the class right now, but there's not a lot of tuning potential.
