2017 Audi RS4 Avant Rendered, But What Will Power It?

This morning's big reveal has swung the gates wide open for Audi-based renderings. The all-new A4 has thus already been transformed into the mighty RS4 super-Avant.

Nobody has even seen the new RS4 yet, so these renderings are purely speculative. X-Tomi Design took the bumper from the smaller RS3 and glued it onto the Avant, resulting in a car that looks familiar.

When launched, the new rennsport machine will already have a competitor in the form of the Mercedes-AMG C63 T-model. In its most powerful configuration, this packs a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 510 PS and almost 50% more torque than the 4.2-liter FSI.

That means Audi also needs to change and introduce forced induction to the RS4. Or should we say 're-introduce,' since there was that little 2.6L biturbo V6 back in 2001.

Rumor has it that engineers are already hard at work developing a new type of twin-turbo TFSI that may also be used by the A6 and A8. It will be a 3.0 or 3.6-liter mill producing up to 500 horsepower.

The regular 2016 A4 has lost up to 120kg of its old weight. However, that won't translate completely to the RS4 since it needs beefy components to cope with track use. At best, it will weigh 1.7 tons, being quite a big fish compared to the BMW M3 sedan.

Speaking of the Bavarian sedan, rumor has it the next RS4 will go back to offering a normal saloon body as well.
