The first-generation R8 was quite an experiment for Audi, with this bringing its fair share of downsides, one of which was the serious power disadvantage compared to the Lamborghini Gallardo. Not so with the current R8 V10 Plus, whose V10 delivers the same output as Lamborghini’s Huracan. In fact, the R8 might just be faster than its Italian cousin.
At least that’s what we get from Motor Trend’s 2017 R8 V10 Plus review. And yes, the 602 hp (610 PS) and 413 lb-ft (Nm) of the 5.2-liter engine seems to serve the Audi better than the Lambo.

The R8 managed to complete the 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in 2.6 seconds. That not only makes it the fastest naturally aspirated machine the mag has ever tested but also places it 0.2 seconds ahead of the contraption Sant’Agata Bolognese has built around the V10 in question.

This also means that you’ll be able to sit just 0.1 seconds away from a Bugatti Veyron or a McLaren P1, all with a humble Audi badge.

And the story doesn’t stop here, as the R8 also bests the Huracan in terms of the stopping power. Sure, the 1-foot difference is microscopic, and yet it exists.

With the optional carbon-ceramic Brembos, the R8 can stop from 60 in 103 feet. As we said, the Lambo needs 104 for the task.

And with a $65,000 advantage on its side, the Audi seems like the obvious choice. Don’t rush to conclusions, though.

A Lamborghini will always be a Lamborghini, with these Raging Bulls managing to put on a show better than any of their rivals.

And then, there’s the performance itself. Sure, Motor Trend may have come up with the performance mentioned above, but it all depends on the caliber. For instance, Car and Driver, which admittedly likes to come up with the fastest times in the writing business, managed to clock the Huracan at 2.5 seconds.

Still, the point remains - the second generation R8 is a marvellous symbol of German engineering.
