We know that the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder has already been revealed, but deliveries haven't begun. In all likelihood, the quattro GmbH engineers are still doing the final tweaks at the Nurburgring before signing it off.
You might think that the Spyder and Coupe are mechanically identical, but that's not the case. Even on the outside, several crucial panels set them apart. For example, the roof doesn't flow the same way, and there's no clear glass cover over the engine. These things affect the aerodynamics of the car.

Audi had a little problem over a decade ago where the TT Roadster liked to kill people. So it's no wonder they are taking extra precautions, even though the R8 supercar is another kind of animal.

The chassis setup might also be different. With the previous generation of the supercar, the loss of stiffness in the body became compensated by stiffer springs, which completely changed the way it felt and handled.

In any case, this isn't quite the supercar killer you would expect it to be. You see, the R8 Spyder is only available with 540 horsepower, not the full-fat 610 configuration the coupe offers. So if you race a Lamborghini Huracan Spider, don't expect them to be even.

Here we go again, talking about a car like you guys own it. Before you do, you'll have to part ways with a lot of money because the 2017 model starts at €179,000, making it €13,000 more expensive than the coupe. It's also on par with the Porsche 911 Turbo in that regard.

If the "one percenters" ever ask why the R8 is so expensive, Audi can always show them the numerous spy videos. O course, many customers will spend even more on options like sports exhaust, paint, and a carbon fiber interior. That gets you bragging rights on Youtube and Instagram these days.
