The Audi Q7 made its debut in 2015, but not all the engines were available. First came the 272 PS diesel, followed after a few months by the 218 PS ultra version of the same 3.0 TDI. 2016 has started and with it comes the first TFSI, a familiar V6.
Audi has switched to a turbocharged 3.0-liter for the upcoming S4. So this could be the last all-new car they make with this supercharged engine. It's got its advantages and disadvantages, but the Q7 is a good fit.
Up next, we are going to look at an independent acceleration test video. According to the onboard measurements, this particular Q7 3.0 TFSI took 6 seconds flat to reach 100 km/h. That's better than the official manufacturer's claim of 6.3 seconds (German model).
Unless you really love supercharged engines, there's not much point in buying this version of the Q7. The 3.0 TDI with 272 PS model gets nearly the same performance, costs €2,000 less and has far better fuel economy. Then again, a gas-burning V6 is unlikely ever to get recalled due to an emissions scandal, and it makes a sweet sound.
Of course, the torque is about 50% lower than on the diesel model. But the TFSI engine compensates for this with instant delivery. Fuel economy isn't terrible, since the ZF gearbox knows how to coast and the supercharger is de-coupled when not needed.
This particular Q7 was subjected to a full review by Youtuber Automann-TV. Interestingly, he compares it to the Touareg he has at home and says the Audi has much better sound insulation, to the point where you can't hear anything at 150 km/h.
Another point being made is that the all-wheel steering system is useful when parking and gives the Q7 a smaller turning radius. That's yet another reason to trade in your old SUV and get this one.
There are other SUVs on the market of similar size and capabilities. That's why Audi has worked hard to get all the details right, including the award-winning Virtual Cockpit system and the all-new MMI controller. But there's no need to sugar-coat the most expensive SUV Audi makes.
