Audi has just announced that the all-new A5 coupe will be revealed this week. So we are also on track to see the Q5 SUV in all its glory within a few months. But that doesn't mean we don't have the time to check out the latest spy photos.
Here we have a fully developed second-generation Q5 prototype with the door open. Not surprisingly, the trim looks similar to the A4 sedan that it shares its platform with. Also reavealed are parts of the taillights and sections of the bumper just above the trapezoidal exhaust pipes, which appear to be fake.

At the front, we see that the headlights don't have that controversial design king at the bottom that the A4 is known for. Under the mesh camo, we can spot a hexagonal grille with much fewer horizontal bars and a 4-ring badge of increased dimensions.

We can't tell you what engine this prototype has got, but we see it feature quattro all-wheel drive, which will be available everywhere from the basic 150 horsepower 2.0 TDI to the 340-ish horsepower SQ5.

Recently, Audi has revealed a new system called quattro ultra, which de-couples the AWD when it's not needed yet always keeps it available when the car determines conditions may require it. On the A4, it reduces fuel consumption by up to 5%, which isn't a whole lot.

Further helping the Q5 compete with the Mercedes GLC-Class will be the new MLB Evo platform. It helped the A4 shed 220 lbs (100 km) and will do the same here. With brand-new 7-speed S tronic gearboxes and much more advanced suspension, the Q5 will also go down the road in total comfort.

There's no doubt the full technology suite available on the A4 will debut inside the Q5. This includes an NVIDIA Tegra X1 chip to move the Virtual Cockpit dash, suspension that can read the road and one of the most intelligent infotainment systems available.
