Audi says that, for the next decade, self-driving cars are not going to be a big deal. We'll one-up them on that and say that vehicles running on hydrogen are not relevant either, at least not from a mass-market point of view. That's why we don't really care about the yellow h-tron quattro from Detroit and are still focused mainly on the upcoming Q5 SUV.
The entire reputation of the German company revolves around the word "quattro." Otherwise, how else can you explain the survival of FWD-based versions of the A8 in such a competitive car market? Sure, it all started in the world of rally racing and continued with wagons that could cope with winter's worst, but the 2017 A4 allroad pales in importance when compared to the upcoming Q5.

The first-gen model that's about to be retired has proven very popular in China and is still one of the most sought after SUVs among Europeans. The successor might even be built in America, the same as the BMW M3 from the city of Spartans.

We know you guys might not be too excited about the 2017 Q5 and what it looks like because it will appear to be just another ordinary Audi. However, that's like saying the Samsung S6 looks just like the S4 and S5. Sure, it's partially true, but the better screen and processor practically forces you to upgrade to the latest Korean phone, and it will be the same case with the Q5.

So, without further ado, let's check out the following two renderings from Theophilus Chin. Hopefully, he got it right, because this thing looks way better than the production version of the Q7. Smaller is definitely more beautiful in this case, as the latest lines from Audi are more pleasant when condensed on a small canvas.

Within a few months, we'll know for sure if this is indeed the shape of the 2017 Q5. But we don't need to wait that long to give you some of the specs.

The same new version of the MLB platform that underpins the A4 allroad we mentioned already will be used here. It should help shed around 100 kilos (220 lbs) of unwanted weight. Those pounds are crucial in the fight against the new GLC-Class from Mercedes-Benz, which some have described as faultless.

Fuel-sipping diesel engines are somewhat exciting, as is the latest 2.0 TFSI that's supposed to be a frugal alternative. But we are mostly excited about the potential of an RS Q5. Sure, a couple of years ago they would have told us to get lost if we asked quattro GmbH for one such performance vehicle. But times change and so must the SUV.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
