With the 2017 Audi Q5 set to make its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show (the French venue opens its doors to the press tomorrow), the German automaker has recently been on a teaser frenzy. Well, the latest teaser clip dropped by Ingolstadt finally gives us what we wanted, namely... the full car.
We're dealing with a short video that shows the second-gen Q5 from afar and also zooms in on the crossover, but only after the high-riding Audi gets dirty thanks to some delicious offroading.
If we had to use one word to describe the styling of the new Q5, that would be "chiseled". The refined styling cues allow the Q5 to make a slight upmarket move, with the hexagonal grille and the slimmer headlights, which were shown in a previous teaser, deserving plenty of credit for this.
On the tech front, the greatest change comes from the MLB-Evo platform of the 2017 Q5. Don't let the modular architecture trick you into believing the Q5 is all that close to the Q7, though. In fact, the newcomer is actually a bit closer to the other end of the platform's scale, namely the A4.
This means we'll get front-wheel-drive Q5 models for the first time, while the fresh architecture will help the crossover get over its weight issues, shedding at least 220 lbs (100 kg).
However, the pleasure of choosing between five modes for the Q7's adaptive air suspension will also become a treat for Q5 owners, as highlighted in a previous teaser.
Under the hood, we'll get gas and diesel units ranging between 1.8 and 3.0 liters, mated to transmission options including a seven-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic, an 8-speed auto Tiptronic and a six-speed manual - the last might not make it to the US, though.
We'll return with the complete reveal as the 2017 Q5 bows in Paris.
