2017 Audi A6 Confirmed by Marc Lichte, Will Ride on MLB Evo

Audis are really coming out of the woodwork these days. The German automaker has just revealed a class-leading hot hatch in the RS3 yesterday and quickly followed that up with the crucial new Q7 SUV, which we'll likely hear about every week until it makes its debut in Detroit a month from now.

But changes are being plotted for the rest of the model range as well. We know the A4 is coming pretty soon, followed by the A8 in 2016. So where does that leave the mid-size premium model. It feels like it was only yesterday that the current A6 was revealed. It represented a huge improvement over its predecessor and the recent facelift brought even more competitive tech this summer.

An all-new A6 is now on the agenda and it seems the talkative new head designer from Audi is more than willing to share some details. The same Marc Lichte who recently put his name to the Prologue concept car told Autocar magazine that the next sixer will arrive in 2017.

Lichte has been responsible for the design, which has been done in parallel with the 2016 A6 sedan and 2017 A7 to ensure a more congruent model range. Marc's big ambition since day 1 at Audi has been to make all the cars more distinctive, thus silencing critics who say all Audis look the same.

We don't have much more to go on in terms of mechanical details, but you can get your quattro all-wheel drive that the same MLB Evo platform that helped the Q7 shed 325 kilograms will be used here.

As some of you may remember, when Audi unveiled the RS5 TDI concept with its electric supercharger and twin turbos, it also showed the A6 TDI concept, which had only one turbo end e-charger. We're pretty sure that setup will make it into production by 2017, together with more fuel saving technologies than we can mention.
