This is the third rendering of the all-new Audi A5 we're showing you, but it's arguably the best as well. That's because the artist took his sweet time and gave the coupé distinctive features from the A4 sedan.
We think the overall impression is very sporty, probably better than the actual A5 that Audi plans to show next year. You see, there's nothing in the spyshots to suggest the LED taillights are connected to each other over the boot. Those lines come from the sexy Prologue concept but aren't viable for a production car. "Here’s how I imagine the next Audi A5 Coupe to look; predictable and some-what boring." says Theophilus Chin in his recent post.

When launched in 2007, the A5 was said to be the sexiest car ever created by Walter de Silva. Despite initial criticism because a FWD platform was used, the coupé's popularity quickly transformed it into a convertible and a 5-door liftback.

Now the second generation is poised to debut, underpinned by the same platform as the all-new A4 sedan. Through extensive use of aluminum, a 100 kg (220 lbs) chunk of weight will be cut. But it's not the lightness or the design that will impress most customers.

The technology package will be identical to that of the Q7. It will include a cruise control system that's so advanced it can drive the car through traffic without any input from you. The A5 coupe will also be equipped with an all-digital dashboard and a touch-sensitive climate control system.((On the engine front, the A5 should drop the base 1.8 turbo engine and replace it with a the 2-liter, 190 horsepower that features a more efficient combustion cycle. We will see slight power increases all across the range diesel range, which will include the 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI.

A big question mark hangs over the future of the S5 performance model. At launch, this will arrive with the same 3-liter supercharged V6 as before, but will receive a slight power bump to about 350 ponies. There might also be a diesel version, equipped with the twin-turbo 3.0 TDI.

The performance RS5 model is more than a year away from making its appearance. This rival for the BMW M4 is said to pack a 2.9-liter twin-turbo engine delivering about 420 horsepower. That would mean Audi lost 30 hp just because it wants to cut emissions and fuel consumption. With the new C63 S Coupe from Mercedes-AMG producing 510 PS, the quattro GmbH will have a tough fight on its hands.
