2017 Audi A4 2.0 TFSI quattro Now Available With Manual Transmission

Until now, the fifth generation of the Audi A4 was perfectly matched with a seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission as far as the American-spec model was concerned. More recently, however, Audi has decided to add a six-speed manual to the mix.

As more and more manufacturers turn to automatics and steering wheel-mounted paddles because development costs are lower and calibration is simpler, the stick shift lives on in this compact executive sedan. The ever-present BMW 3 Series in 330i xDrive, on the other hand, is an auto-only affair.

Exclusively available in the 2017 Audi A4 2.0 TFSI quattro, the six-speed manual transmissions enables runs from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, which is seven-tenths quicker than the previous generation. What’s more, the use of lightweight magnesium, smaller clutch, open gearwheels, as well as hollow shafts reduce the weight of the stick shift unit by 35.3 lbs (16 kg).

The business end of this premium sedan is typical Audi business. 2.0 liters displacement, forced induction, 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque. All that oomph is sent to each and every wheel of the A4 2.0 TFSI quattro thanks to an ultra technology-type quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Compared to the non-ultra quattro system, this one weighs 8.8 lbs (4 kg) less and it makes use of an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch at the rear end of the transmission plus an integrated decoupler in the rear axle differential. This should come in handy if you live in a snowy place, as in regions such as the southeast of Lake Erie or south of Lake Ontario.

Exclusive to the 2017 Audi A4 2.0 TFSI quattro with the stick shift is a packaged baptized Sport plus. The optional pack adds a helluva lot of goodies. Starting with 18-inch double-spoke cast aluminum wheels, it continues with S line leather-and-Alcantara interior upholstery with sport seats, stainless steel pedal fascias, flat-bottom steering wheel and brushed aluminum decorative inlays. Dynamic steering and sport adaptive suspension are also included.
