These five custom cars have been revealed at the Worthersee GTI meet. But there's something wrong, isn't there?! A Jetta GLI, orange in the headlights - yes, these are the signs of American freedom.
Despite the Dieselgate scandal, we would be proud to call some of these cars our own. So Volkswagen America has done a fantastic job capturing the spirit of the Worthersee car meet, where everybody comes to show off his Vdub.

The Pentagon of semi-German cars (most are made in Mexico) has focused on "improving" the stance with coilover suspension and the custom wheels. As a personal choice, I'd pick the green Golf, but the fans over in Austria seem to be taken with the Jetta GLI because they can't buy one.

Let's take things slow and look at these projects in detail. First up, we have the Bali Green Golf, which is based on a 1.8T model with a paintjob inspired by the first Rabbit. 19-inch BBS Super RS rims also have a retro vibe, enforced by the black heritage stripe along the bottom of the doors.

For that purple GTI, they went to Vossen Wheels and asked for the strangest gold alloys they had, the 20-inch LC_103 with a phone dial look. When in doubt, add a roof box!

The Golf R is subtle enough that we believe it's a pre-production car, maybe a Wolfsburg edition or a Black Edition. It's got a bit of paint and tint, but not much else.

The Jetta GLI looks sleek on Momo RS wheels, which are very similar to what the Rockstar Energy Passat race cars use. It's also riding on HandR Street Performance coilovers and should handle like a dream compared to your grandma's Jetta.

Finally, there's a typical slammed Passat. Only it's the first 2016MY we've seen tuned. Thanks to the AccuAir E-Level TouchPad air management package, the suspension can be lowered or raised easily. It rides on 20-inch forged LC-106T Vossen wheels with full polish and gloss clear, having been decked out with a wood trunk liner.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
