As it does with other models in the range, Volvo offers an R-Design package for the S90. However, this package has not been officially revealed yet. Thankfully, our friends at CarPix spotted a test vehicle that didn’t have any camouflage in the wild, so we bring you the first pictures of the R-Design version of the S90.

We know the car in the photo gallery is a test vehicle since it has a sticker on the driver’s door that says so, along with the fact that the car has different trim on the front bumper. Around the fog lights, the vehicle shows some unusual elements that don’t seem to be meant for the final production version, but rather a solution to hide some of the changes brought by the R-Design package.

A quick look at the test vehicle reveals a different front spoiler and a bigger air intake on the bumper. The air intakes beneath the headlights and above the fog lights are somewhat covered by a plastic ornament. The XC90 features a similar element in its R-Design version.

We expect Volvo to offer the R-Design package with matte aluminum trim for the side mirror caps. Also, the Swedish manufacturer is expected to bring new wheel designs for this version of the S90. The side of the vehicle is not covered by any camouflage so there might not be any changes on this part of the car. Our spy photographers have not managed to snap any pictures of the rear end of the car, so Volvo might still have some surprises for us in the S90’s R-Design package.

As usual, the R-Design package is strictly cosmetic, so there are no changes to the engine range or the car’s handling. Customers who want more from their Volvo in these departments can opt for the future Polestar version.
