2016 Volkswagen Tiguan Teaser Photo Shows Nothing, Succeeds in Frustrating Us

We're a few days away from Frankfurt Motor Show's debut, so it's only natural to register an increase in the rate of teasers we get, but the one for the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan has got to be the best yet.

Why? Because it shows... absolutely nothing of the new car, taking the teaser concept one step further. Seeing two factory workers preparing to pull the wraps off the German SUV isn't teasing, but frustrating us.

When we did cool off a bit, we started analyzing the picture in more detail and realized we were blinded by our own rage. There's actually plenty to see, you just need to know where to look. In this case, it's left and right.

To each side of the central line of cars, there are two more and the Tiguans there are so conveniently free of any covers. So, what do we see?

Well, not that much, but it's still more than what we had initially. We can see what appears to be a bi-xenon headlight that looks very much like those on the current Touareg. On the left, a pesky column hides the center part of the new Tiguan's front end, but the similarities with the bigger Volkswagen SUV continue.

After all, we were told the new VW Tiguan would be larger than the outgoing model so given how much Volkswagen models look like one another, it makes sense for the mid-sized SUV to bear some similarities with the Touareg.

The new car will get an even larger seven-seater version destined mainly for the US market. It will use the same MQB platform as models such as the Golf, Passat, but also Audi A3 or TT. The engine lineup should remain within the limits of the two-liter four-cylinder engines, but we should at least be treated to a 2.0 BiTDI version developing 240 horsepower.

More information - all of it, rather - will be available once the Volkswagen Tiguan gets its official launch in Frankfurt, and we'll be there to report it. Until then, let's just hope for a few more teasers from Volkswagen that won't leave us guessing quite this much.
