The next generation VW Tiguan is pretty much certain to come out by 2016. What we don't yet know is what it will look like. This next rendering could give us a rough idea of what to expect, created by Theophilus Chin based on one of the most recent concepts unveiled by the German company.
The transition from the T-Roc to the new Tiguan has been made using a different grille, wheels and four doors. We feel that Volkswagen is unlikely to make a new SUV that looks like this, since visibility, practicality and space are main focuses of the Tiguan.
The T-Roc Concept was a big surprise for us when it came out at the Geneva Motor Show. It's supposed to preview a small SUV that fits between the Taigun, that little Brazilian car based on the Up!, and the Tiguan compact. Think of it not as a Polo SUV, but as a Golf-sized vehicle that's fun, a lifestyle choice, like the Audi Q1 promises to be.
MQB architecture like the one used by the Golf will be used to underpin the new Tiguan. The model would be lighter and thus more efficient to its predecessor, though new engines will contribute as well. Dimensions will remain almost unchanged, except for the width which might be increased a little.
A large diversity of powertrains will be available, including natural gas, plug-in hybrid and possibly even electric. All-wheel drive will be optional, a new Haldex 5 generation having just been developed for the Golf.
