2016 Volkswagen Jetta CC Four-Door Coupe: What It Should Look Like

Just about every concept car Volkswagen has built over the past decade has made it into production in one way or another. That's why we think the NMC concept shown in Beijing this week is going to make it into production, probably within the next two years.

Capitalizing on the success of the Passat CC and its facelift, the CC, Volkswagen is going further down the four-door coupe rabbit hole with a smaller version, about the size of a Jetta, but much wider. It sounds like a great lifestyle choice, especially since the Scirocco's take on the FWD coupe is getting a little old and irrelevant.

Based on the New Midsize Coupe concept, this set of renderings has been created to show what a Jetta CC might look like once it rolls off the assembly line. Things like 19-inch wheels from the Golf R and the rear diffuser from the GTI make the look very believable. Not much else had to be photoshoped though, since the NMC had regular door handles and mirrors on it.

The Mercedes CLA has definitely shown there's a market for a small four-door coupe. But will people buy a wider, lower and sportier Jetta that doesn't look unique? They probably will, based purely on the fact that a Scirocco doesn't look that much different from a Golf 6.

Since compact four-door coupes aren't really a new niche, we think Volkswagen needs to make a statement. The GLI badge on the Jetta is nonsense – GTI and R ones need to confidently make their way onto this car, which somehow needs to be presented as a little better than a Golf in some areas, like the rear track or the cargo space.
