Volkswagen has launched an all-new generation of Passat and Passat Variant mid-size models. They're soon going to be available with 10 different powertrains, at least 3 different gearboxes and FWD or AWD. For most car companies, that would be "job done", but not them. An Alltrack softroader model is coming in 2015, followed by the new CC four-door coupe, ready by 2016.
Here's what a shooting brake version of that coupe might look like if Volkswagen decides it wants such a thing. It's been rendered into life by RM.Design and even though it doesn't look that different to the Passat Variant, we still like it.
The idea of a shooting brake is to sacrifice a bit of space for a sloped roof and more style. If you turn that picture upside-down, it means that you can buy something with the great looks of your favorite coupe and have room for more luggage. In any case, VW doesn't have any four-door coupe models.
This ties in very nicely with the "German premium design and technology for less money" mantra that Volkswagen lives by these days.
At 4,768mm long (187.7 inches), the Passat is kind of a big car. If we consider it to be a cheap alternative to an E-Class, than the CC Shooting Brake is going to be a cheap CLS-Class Shooting Brake.
In the long run, Volkswagen is also preparing a new 6-cylinder engine that's supposed to go into their 7-seat crossover/SUV. It could make anywhere from 350 to 400 hp, giving your typical BMW or Merc a run for its money.
Think about that for a couple of years while Wintercorn decides if he wants a shooter in his army bent on world domination or not…

You want a cool engine with that?
You can't write about a cool VW these days without mentioning some sort of quad-turbo, single-cylinder hybridized thruster. We have a few of those for the CC Shooting Brake as well. For example, it could get the new twin-turbo 2-liter TDI engine with 240 horsepower or the 300 horsepower TSI from the Golf R. Both are compatible with any MQB car, which this is.In the long run, Volkswagen is also preparing a new 6-cylinder engine that's supposed to go into their 7-seat crossover/SUV.
