2016 Triumph Thruxton and Thruxton R Shown, Looking like Real Neo-Retro Beauties - Gallery

Triumph shows their all-new Thruxton and Thruxton R machines, improved with a generous list of upgrades and seemingly ready to set a new benchmark in the neo-retro niche. These bikes add a new edge to the cafe-racer design and introduce the old-school road racing vibe with the optional kits Triumph prepared.

Based on the Bonneville platform when it was born, the Thrux does not stray from the recipe. Its engine is the same new, liquid-cooled power plant that animates the 2016 Bonnie, with a significant displacement hike and more power and torque ready to scorch the road. And speaking of torque, the Thruxton can deliver a very appealing 120 Nm (88.4 lb-ft) of torque already available at 4.950 rpm, and this will make it really fun for both fast highway hauls and countryside cruising.

Electronics ahoy, and an extra riding mode

Just like the Bonneville, the Thruxton and Thruxton R now enjoy a host of electronic features. ABS was added to the braking system and in Europe this is the standard trim, possibly becoming optional in markets where ABS is not compulsory.

The ride-by-wire system enhances the throttle control and allows Triumph to implement riding modes, an extra edge over other neo-retro machines like, say, the BMW R nineT. The Bonnie had two riding modes, the Thruxton has three, with Sport added to the Road and Rain ones.

For 2016, the Thrux also comes with slipper assist clutch, but with cable actuation instead of a mode modern hydraulic choice. The bars come with easily-accessible controls for altering the electronics' parameters. Obviously, the instrumentation was also upgraded, with the two round analog dials complemented by two backlit LCD screens that offer comprehensive readings. Daytime Riding Lights, an LED taillight, engine immobilizer and USB port are also on the menu.

The Thruxton R is equipped with Brembo dual floating front rotors and monoblock radial calipers, high-spec upside down Showa Big Piston Forks, and Ohlins rear monoshock and high-performance Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires.

Finally, no less than 160 accessories will be available for customizing the new Thrux machines, including full kits with retro race fairings, polished parts, and more.
