Earlier reports hinted that Toyota is planning to reveal a brand new Tacoma mid-size pickup truck at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Well, it’s true - the next generation will shed its covers there and the automaker also wanted to tease us with this photo.
Yes, that’s the tailgate of the upcoming Tacoma. Well, just a part of it and some mud splattered along with some fine print saying it’s just a prototype with options and that the production model may vary.

Does it reveal something? Apart from having slightly redesigned taillamps, manlier-looking stamped tailgate and that mud perfectly complementing the dark metallic blue paint, nothing.

Changes

We’re expecting the model to have gone through some significant design changes, both inside and out, along with mechanical updates (like the Tundra received) and probably two optimized engines.

At the moment, Toyota’s mid-size workhorse is offered in two body styles (Double and Access Cab), being powered by a 159 hp 2.7-liter four-pot or a stronger 236 hp 4-liter V6 unit, both enhanced by VVT-i technology.

If that’s too bland for you, there’s a TRD Pro version available which comes with added style, higher off-road Bilstein suspension, a TRD cat-back exhaust, bash plates, special mats and gear lever knob, new orange paint and a set of beadlock-style alloy wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain tires.
