No more cropped shots filled with mud and dust now, this is the 2016 Toyota Tacoma fully revealed in a set of new pictures, just ahead of its official debut next week at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Yep, Toyota fully undisguised a nice metallic blue 2016 Tacoma pickup in several photos along with a neat video, which in fact is the long version of the teaser one released just recently. You know, the one with the invisible pickup raising the dust in the desert.
What’s different?
No one had access to the interior, nor under the hood, so we’ll only talk about exterior changes. Starting with the front section, you should notice a bit of Tundra aroma here, coming from a hexagonal grille, slimmer headlights, redesigned foglights, a lower intake reuniting them as well as a lower air dam/bash plate, a more creased hood and sharper wheel arches.
Down the side, things haven’t changed that much, with the whole cab looking mostly the same. There are some minor lines redrawn, blackened B pillars as well as a more pronounced rear windows kink.
At the back, you get new taillamps, the same sharpened wheel arches, a redesigned three-piece bumper as well as a “Tacoma” stamped gate to make things more interesting.
And that’s about all we can tell you for the moment, along with the fact it should get powered by an enhanced 4-liter V6 unit sending power to either rear or all wheels via an 5-speed automatic gearbox.
Up until recently, the Toyota Tacoma’s only enemy was the Nissan Frontier, which left behind on the medium pickup sales chart. However, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and the possibility of the Ford Ranger to return could mean the Tacoma’s years of domination to end.
