Toyota has discovered a problem on some 2016 model year vehicles made for the US market. Thus, it has announced a recall affecting 4,170 examples of the 2016 RAV4, just 90 units of the 2016 Lexus RX 350, and 12,400 units of the 2016 ES 350.
In the affected vehicles, the Brake Actuator assembly unit is defective. Its function is crucial for the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control (TRAC), and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), among others. You might not notice anything, but if they don't function properly... you could die.

To fix the problem, Toyota will check out all the affected vehicles, and if the part number corresponds to the batch of bad ones, they will replace it. All known owners of the affected Toyota vehicles will be notified by first class mail. Toyota and Lexus dealers will do the repair free of charge.

The RX is part of another recall announced in January affecting 5,000 units of MY 2016 RX350 and RX450h. Lexus is inspecting the driver’s knee airbag assembly and will replace the part if necessary. No injuries or deaths have been connected to either of these recalls, and we don't expect to be any since the numbers involved are small.

In a separate recall, Toyota announced that some 230 model year Sienna minivans will have to be called back due to incorrectly assembled front seat belt height adjuster assemblies mounted to the center pillar. It's possible that, in the event of a crash, the adjuster could separate and the seatbelt may not properly restrain the occupant, which could increase the risk of injury.

Recall information is subject to change over time. If you want to know if something is wrong with your car or have a sneaking suspicion, check for the most up-do-date safety recall information on Toyota, Scion or Lexus vehicles on a special website. Customers should check their vehicle’s status by visiting toyota.com/recall and entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
