For those in the market for a light commercial vehicle (as in a van), Toyota jumps on the bandwagon with the all-new Proace Van. What you’re looking at is a range of versatile vans developed for the European market, available in two trim levels, three body sizes, and two wheelbase lengths.
The body sizes are dubbed Compact, Medium, and Long. The 2016 Toyota Proace Van Compact stands 4.6 meters long and it boasts a 2.9-meter wheelbase, the shortest in the medium-duty van segment. Despite its size, the Proace Van Compact offers three seats, a 2.1-meter long and 1.6-meter wide cargo bay, and a total cargo volume of 4.6 cubic meters.
Toyota underlines that the Compact is available as a 9-seater Combi, Crew Cab, and as a Platform Cab. The Proace Van Medium stands 4.9 meters long and sports a 3.2-meter wheelbase. When equipped with the optional Smart Cargo system, maximum cargo length increases from 2.5 to 3.7 meters and total cargo volume rises from 5.3 to 5.8 cubic meters.
The Toyota Proace Van Long trumps its siblings with an extended rear overhang for greater cargo capacity (6.6 cubic meters with the Smart Cargo system), coming courtesy of an overall length of 5.3 meters. This model is available in Panel, Semi-Glazed or Glazed Van, Crew Cab, and Combi configurations. A total of five turbo diesel powertrains are available, with outputs varying from 95 to 180 PS. On the cog-swapping front, Toyota is gunning for best-in-class CO2 emissions in the medium-duty segment with a choice of manual, robotized manual, and automatic transmission.
Base and Comfort trim levels will have to do for the more utilitarian versions of the 2016 Toyota Proace Van. Other than the Base trim level, the Combi can also be had in a more comfortable Passenger Car grade. More information on the newest proposition in the LCV segment is available in the release below.
