Toyota is taking things step by step with their new Mirai fuel cell EV, but the green car's arrival to the US was not a secret.
However, Toyota published a picture showing a batch of Mirai sedans being unloaded off a ship. But as we've told you before, don't get your hopes up because the water generating sedan is destined exclusively for the Californian market.

Toyota is also telling us that in one week - on July 20, to be more precise - California-based customers will be able to request their Mirai by visiting www.toyota.com/mirai.

After wannabe owners of the Mirai had announced their official intention of buying the car, potential Mirai drivers will be contacted directly by a Toyota representative to explore the possibility of Mirai ownership.

If this looks complicated and a bit unfair to you, then you're right. Toyota announced from the start the Mirai will be only available to eligible, carefully selected customers, as the EV will be produced in limited numbers; 3,000 units through 2017.

However, those lucky enough to pass Toyota's rigorous selection will enjoy the Mirai's EPA-estimated 67 miles per gallon equivalent (mpge) city/highway/combined and an EPA-estimated driving range rating of 312 miles (502 km) on a single fill of hydrogen.

Also, for the first three years of ownership, buyers will receive complimentary fuel (or $15,000 maximum, whichever comes first) and a hydrogen station finder app.

Also, Toyota is offering an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on critical fuel cell vehicle components including the FC stack and power control unit.
