The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been revealed simultaneously in Thailand and Australia, as Toyota is looking to boost their SUV sales, and we have official info on the new model.
We won't see it in the US, and Europeans won't get it either because the seven-seat SUV resting on Toyota Hilux architecture will only be shipped to Thailand and the Land Down Under.

On that note, let's see what clients in these two areas will get once they pay for the 2016 Fortuner.

To start with, the engine working under the hood is 2.8-liter direct-injection four-pot turbo diesel engine delivering 177 horsepower and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.

Resource management for this mill can be done via a six-speed manual gearbox or through a six-speed auto, while Toyota included features like trailer sway control on what it describes as a "stylish and refined vehicle that is remarkably tough and offers genuine 4WD ability."

If it's towing your boat you're worried about, how about this: maximum braked towing capacity will be three tons with the manual and 2.8 tons for the auto.

Buyers will be able to choose between three grades - GX, GXL and Crusade - while the SUV's suspension package was developed and tuned by local engineers to meet Australia's harsh conditions, with double wishbones at the front and a five-link, coil-spring configuration at the rear, assisted by front and rear stabiliser bars to keep body roll under control.

On paper, the amenities for the entry-level 2016 Toyota Fortuner include a reversing camera, seven airbags and hill-start assist control. Also, Toyota expects Fortuner to attract the top five-star safety rating.

For those looking for a more comprehensive set of features, the GXL and Crusade variants bring roof rails, fog lamps, reverse parking sensors, smart keyless entry and start, and downhill assist control.

For the wider picture, we'd like to mention that Toyota sells more SUVs in Australia than any other brand, having delivered more than 50,000 in each of the past three years.

More details on the car are available in the press release below.
