The experts over at Auto Perfect Son have performed such a head unit upgrade, and as you can see in the Instagram post embedded below and the photos in the gallery here, the new stereo seems to perfectly fit the console, looking almost like factory-installed equipment.
The head unit they used is the Pioneer DMH-1500NEX, which is one of the most affordable models on the market, yet one of the best when it comes to the feature lineup-price ratio.
Available for some $300 on Amazon, the DMH-1500NEX sports a 7-inch display with built-in Bluetooth, so even if you don’t want to use features like Android Auto and CarPlay, you can still pair your phone with the head unit wirelessly for phone calls and music streaming.
But it goes without saying that the support for AA and CarPlay is the flagship feature of this head unit, especially as the adoption of these systems is continuously on the rise.
But the Pioneer head unit also includes a few extras, such as 3 RCA pre-outs, a 13-brand customizable graphic equalizer, one USB port and an AUX input, an optional remote control, and composite video output.
Worth knowing is that both Android Auto and CarPlay require a wired connection (a wireless version would obviously be much more expensive, but many drivers wouldn’t mind using a cable anyway). Also, the head unit is SirusXM-ready, but the tuner is sold separately, so you’ll have to spend extra to get it.
