You read it right, smart will bring the 2016 fortwo at the New York International Auto Show next week, but Americans won’t be as spoiled as Europeans, at least concerning engine options.
smart plans to capture the hearts for potential American customers with the 2016 fortwo but unlike its European-spec twin brother, the fortwo will only go on sale with the turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine good for 90 HP and 100 lb-ft (135 Nm) of torque at 2,500 rpm. These shy figures will be handled via a five-speed manual gearbox or through the optional new twinamic dual-clutch transmission.

In order to straighten things out, smart plans on bringing an Edition 1 version for those who prefer fancy car and don’t really care what’s under the hood. This variant promises LED headlights, a panoramic glass roof and a sport-tuned suspension seasoned nicely with a set of 16-inch black alloy wheels.

On the inside, the Edition 1 will feature black & orange fabric seats plus a more lively feel oozing from a sport steering wheel and stainless steel pedals.

Coming back to the non-pimped version of the 2016 smart fortwo, you should know that Daimler’s division will offer four trim levels as if follows: pure, passion, prime and proxy. There’s a bag of candy for each one of them in terms of equipment, considering that the entry-level pure trim is all about LED daytime running lights, cruise control and a multifuctional steering wheel.

For the the comfort-oriented clientele, the 2016 smart fortwo brings to the table power and heated mirrors, heigh adjustable driver seat, an armrest and a retractable cargo cover.
