The Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 that will take place this fall will bring a host of new models to the scene and the Smart team will be there too with a world premiere, even though it will be somewhat indirect. We’re talking about the debut of the 2016 Smart ForTwo Brabus model that is being awaited by fans of the brand.
We caught up with the car on more than one occasion and our latest batch of spyshots show it in white and production ready. Compared to the standard model, the guys from Brabus did some changes to the car, as expected.
At the back, there's twin exhaust setup that is a dead giveaway while the suspension drop might be overlooked by some. The track also seems to be slightly wider.
Of course, bigger wheels, some upgraded brakes and a rear diffusor are all thrown in the mix too while the front bumper is supposed to be slightly sportier even though we can’t tell due to the camouflage.
The biggest question on everyone’s mind though is what Brabus will be able to get out of the small engine under the bonnet. At the moment, nobody knows what unit will be used if it’s going to be the 0.9-liter 3-cylinder turbo or a bigger 1.2-liter from Renault.
The former seems to be the favorite at the moment, with output expected to go from 90 HP to 130 HP, but nothing’s for sure right now. The gearbox should get a small improvement but don’t expect miracles, no matter how good Brabus is.
Either way, this will be a niche product that definitely won’t appeal to everyone. However, we wouldn’t mind getting to test it out and see how a proper engine deals with the compact size of the ForTwo, especially after being left rather disappointed during our test drive with the regular model.
